Shameless (but non-commercial) Plug18 Jul 2008 16:13 GMT3
If anyone is interested, I've been writing a blog for the newspaper I work
for for more than an a year now.  It's entitled "Along the Right of Way" and
deals primarily with my interest in model railroading but also railroading
"stuff" in general.  I try to update every three days ...
Mini 1948 Trials Southern Style16 Jul 2008 22:05 GMT4
Having just replaced the magnet in my Wrenn unrebuilt BoB bulleid
pacific with a Neo magnet I thought I'd do a haulage trial on my 1 in 28
helix. The Wrenn loco could haul an 8 car train up the helix but could
not start it, would keep going with a push start. The unrebuilt modern ...

I am contemplating buying a Falcon Brassworks "Saint" to fit on a new
Hornby 5 pole castle chassis ( with suitable cylinder mods). Any
comments on Falcon as I cannot find any fotos!

Bachmann spares14 Jul 2008 13:29 GMT2
Any pointers please, as to the best place to obtain a replacement front bogie
for an OO Lord Nelson. My OH had managed to launch my Ltd Edn 850 onto the floor
and it appears OK, apart from havnig snapped the central pivot of said bogie.
Cheers Andy
Track plans software14 Jul 2008 13:00 GMT16
I'm sure this has been asked many times before, I want to design my own
layout and would welcome some advice on what is the best software to use. I
may model in N gauge or OO gauge, would this make a problem to the software
or will the software be capable of working in both ...

I can't seem to define elevations.
I've got the track down pat.  Lets call it a figure 8, the train runs
around finally. (lots of broken sections of track).
But I want to make the tracks go over/under each other, not figure Xing.

Steam Loco Running Boards13 Jul 2008 17:33 GMT3
I'm doing a major G gauge kitbash - an LGB mogul chassis under a shortened
Bachmann cab and smokebox with a 2" ID PVC pipe boiler.  So far so good, but
I'm now to the point of attaching the running boards to the boiler.  I've
looked through my loco cyclopedias, and this is a ...
Paint stripping with brake fluid12 Jul 2008 03:51 GMT20
I've read many positive comments on this method, and passed them on,
too, but I've never done it myself. I'm about to try it, as it's said to
be safe for styrene. But I have a couple of questions.
How long does it take, typically? Does it just soften the paint, or does
