2009 British Model Railway Poll - Demographics - Discuss!27 Jun 2009 00:44 GMT39
I've extracted the following from the latest issue (#7) of Hornby's "The
Collector Plus" magazine which fell through our letter box this morning.
I'm not suggested that these figures are a scientific representation of the
railway modelling fraternity, but they do (in many ...
16mmng Gas-powered live steam - safety thereof?27 Jun 2009 00:43 GMT22
It seems that there is a problem with this type of locomotive that
the water can run dry before the gas supply runs out.
ISTR that my central heating boiler has an over-temperature
interlock for the gas supply.
Hal Carstens passed away25 Jun 2009 02:18 GMT2
Caught on another group:
>For those who have not yet heard, Hal Carstens passed away at his home
>this morning.  He was a real pioneer in the hobby, as well as heading up
>his publishing empire.  He will be sorely missed, and my condolences go
Auto-Loco in Sheringham  Change of ownership24 Jun 2009 19:48 GMT8
We were on holiday for a few days last week in North Norfolk and after
visiting the Poppy Line took a walk in Sheringham.  At 10 Station Road
we found the above shop.  Our son got himself a couple of things and
whilst doing so we overheard the owner was retiring this week.
Why, in a nut shell, I came back to the hobby23 Jun 2009 21:11 GMT1

N scale Con-Cor question23 Jun 2009 15:23 GMT1
I recently bought a second hand Con-Cor / Rivarossi 2-8-8-2 Mallet. Got it
at a model railway exhibition for a pretty good price and I'm very happy
with it, but I want to give it a lube. How does the body come off?
From what I can see, I have to pull the tender apart, disconnect ...

Need Small Parts?22 Jun 2009 01:58 GMT2
Here's a good way to make your own. If you have a metal item that is
broken, you can glue it with SuperGlue(tm) which is strong enough to
make a mold.

Disposing of Old Model Railway Stuff21 Jun 2009 09:32 GMT1
I'm having a bit of a clear out and am wondering what is the best way of
getting rid of old model railway stuff these days.  I've used EBay
before, but now you have to accept PayPal which I don't want to do.  Has
anyone used any other auction sites, like EBid, successfully?
A Very Small 140 pound Modeling Opportunity...21 Jun 2009 01:19 GMT3
My wife likes to wander through antique stores on weekend mornings,
and I usually go with her because you just never know what you'll
find. (In several instances I've found brass locos and other model
railroading paraphernalia for sale cheap.) So this morning we walked
