More Edmonton model pictures added31 Jul 2009 11:11 GMT4
Another 10 photos taken at Edmonton Model Railroad Association starting
here http://mikehughes627.fotopic.net/p59856720.html
We're now starting to get to the more detailed parts of the layout.
I have another 10 ready to be added very soon. Only another 50+ to go -
Some real rail pictures as well as some model ones31 Jul 2009 11:09 GMT4
Actually, they were taken of part of my trip on the hi rail showing just
how quickly a broken fishplate can be fixed.
As fotopic is set to show the latest first, it's best to start here
http://mikehughes627.fotopic.net/p59893683.html and then go to the
prototype31 Jul 2009 06:54 GMT1
I enjoyed the prototype pictures and noted the ballast and siding track
dirt. I look at things from a different perspective than some and realized I
have those colors. This is the CN railroad, but could be used for a free
lance line.
model planking30 Jul 2009 20:19 GMT2
Someone was asking here recently about (cheap?) sources of
wood suitable for modelling.
I have come across the 6" long stirrers sold with coffee cups
these days which are about 1/4" wide. Enquiring of the

Wonder if the Barbon Hill quarry on the Ellis and Everard wagon is near
Bardon Hill or is this a Hornby 20p ?
MRJ 18829 Jul 2009 19:50 GMT3
Could anybody remind me of the main content of this issue? I can't find
mine, and if reminded will know if I actually received it. Thanks
Re: Model Rail - Gem Kit28 Jul 2009 21:27 GMT10
Final installment in this months issue, finishes off with painting. Insists
an airbrush or aerosol must be used, brush painting just cant be good
enough. Would have accepted statement if qualified with for him or other
version.
PU foam28 Jul 2009 07:16 GMT6
A couple of early thoughts on polyurethane foam as a modelling
material: first, it's not easy to stick; second, it stinks!
On the plus side you can build hills and embankments with fabulous
ease.  Sod the scrunched-up newspaper and chicken wire approach!  Hey,
Baldwin backhead detail?28 Jul 2009 00:04 GMT12
can anyone point me to drawings or photographs of Baldwin boiler backhead
details, builders date circa 1898.
The loco I'm building has a Belpaire type firebox.
(Narrow gauge would be even better)
Kadee Magnets27 Jul 2009 09:06 GMT12
Is there anything special about the Kadee uncoupling magnets, they
appear expensive.
Is there a cheaper way?
TIA
GRP hills26 Jul 2009 20:32 GMT10
Has anyone here tried GRP as a medium for building hills?  I was
thinking that GRP moulded onto an exmet armature would be light and
easily removed for sections of hill concealing trackwork.

Removing Hornby Crankpins25 Jul 2009 13:12 GMT5
Does anyone know where I can get a spanner to remove Hornby's hexagonal?
crankpins?  Are the Bachmann crankpins the same size?  It would be nice
if I only had to buy one tool :)
