Phase III?15 Nov 2003 13:10 GMT13
Under the leadership and guidance of Frank "Rocketman" Uroda, our
community has stepped forward in an attempted to "save rocketry"
We are presently at the time where we will begin to see our "return on
investment".  The measures of our success will be both tangible and
Rocket Challenge on Discover15 Nov 2003 09:36 GMT50
After seeing the ad for the rocket challenge on Discover I had a thought...
If you were an average American with 2.5 children and a dog and absolutely
no knowledge of amateur rocketry, would seeing a three hour show about 65+
pound rockets being sent 10,000+ feet into the sky make ...
LDRS Progress15 Nov 2003 05:53 GMT32
All
Just wanted all to know that progress IS being made on next years LDRS:-). I
made a deal today for the host hotel, and a tenative deal on the banquet. As
soon as the contracts are signed and the BRS Board agrees with the terms, I'll
Large Model Rocket Suggestions14 Nov 2003 23:17 GMT20
I'm a Born again looking for suggestions for large model rockets which
would fall in the gap between model rocketry and HP model rocketry.
I like the launchpad kits, but I'm looking for something a little more
solid, maybe TTW fins.  The Hi-Tech H45 looks like a good candidate,
mercury switch for deployment14 Nov 2003 22:49 GMT16
Probably another dumb question - but has anyone tried a mercury switch for
deployment? At apogee when the rocket turn over, the mercury would complete the
connection and hopefully set off the ejection charge. Has this ever been tried?
Also, I see that AEROTECH is now producing ...
Neat kits14 Nov 2003 21:49 GMT2
I am wondering where I can find a kit called the Alien 8. It is about
3' long and has 2 or 3 ping pong balls on it. I saw it at a launch
some weeks ago, but I can not find it in any stores. Anybody know it?

RMS-24/40 Aft Closure Diameter14 Nov 2003 17:03 GMT7
I am working on a rocket with a 24mm motor mount and am at the point of
adding the motor retention.  I would like build it so it can use the
RMS-24/40 casing.  I need the outer diameter of the aft closure to set the
spacing of the threaded inserts.  I do not currently have a casing, ...
"history" question14 Nov 2003 13:50 GMT21
I was into model rocketry for a couple of years in '71-72 or so. I
didn't like Estes at all, so I flew Centuri. :-)
I saw the Rocket Challenge show on Discovery and was amazed at the
size of most of the rockets.
Thank You!14 Nov 2003 01:18 GMT21
Thank you to all the Veterans, past, present and future (i.e. still in
service), who served our country.  In particular I am thankful for a young
Ensign in the Navy Reserves who served in the Pacific during WWII.  The
country owes our existence to our veterans.
Walmart and Estes14 Nov 2003 00:40 GMT20
I just went into the local Supercenter and found that they had _no_
kits and the remaining motors were being sold at $3.00 per pack.
Is Walmart dropping model rockets?  Or is this another Estes problem?

Rocket Challenge comments14 Nov 2003 00:32 GMT157
half way through the 3 hours, and the Rocket Challenge is very
impressive.  Very good depiction of rocketry as a technical challenge,
as fun and exciting, as a "learn from your mistakes", and as a family
activity - complete with wives and kids.
Dual chutes?13 Nov 2003 23:04 GMT2
I'm wondering about the relative merits of two smaller chutes versus a
single larger one to be motor deployed at apogee in a F/G/H LMR project.
It's a rear separation model that splits into fin can-forward airframe
sections. I was considering a smaller chute for each section, with ...
